I went on several snorkeling tours and none come close to Bocas Sailing. The 2 reefs we went to were unbelievable. This is not a party boat ( unless all your friends are on board), it's a kick back mellow ride to great snorkeling.
Whilst enjoying breakfast at the german bakery (see my other Posts) we bumped into Marcel, a 55 year old, fit pirate looking, German born local. We already booked a regular tour, but were talked in to joining Marcel on the H20, his majestic catamaran. The weather was extraordinary and the boat was spacious enough to fit the eleven of us: all doctors, but there was space for some nurses as well. Marcel knows a lot about both the local traditions as tax avoidance constructions. He showed us marvelous snorkeling spots and dolphins. The bears were cold, the sandwich close to epic. A trip to remember!
My wife and I sailed with Marcell in mid-June. The weather was perfectly sunny but not overly conducive for sailing. Marcell still made the most of the poor wind and all had a great time. The snorkeling was actually better than I had anticipated as there is still a lot of live coral in the area rather than a bunch of dead and bleached out old coral that I have seen in other dive locations. Sunscreen is mandatory of course but at some point, even that isn't enough. As careful as we all were, we all managed to get fried. Lot's of fun. If his kids are along for the ride, don't worry. They were awesome and actually added to the enjoyment.
Relaxing day trip on a catamaran with two spots for snorkling.
We have seen several dolphines and a shark.
The first snorkling spot was close to the Mangrove: I have never seen so many fishes outside of a tank.
Skipper speaks Spanish, English and German.
Meeting Point was in the park. (I have needed a call to find that out.)
We booked a trip with Bocas Sailing spontaneously. Marcell answered our E-Mail request within a few minutes and picked us the next day up at the park from which we went to his boat. We had luck that only 2 other guests have booked the same day so we have been a small group of 4 people and there was more than enough space for everybody to spend time lying in the sun. He brought us to beautiful snorkeling places (his little "Manhatten") and made perfect sandwiches for lunch. At the end of the day we sailed through dolphin bay and saw quite a lot of them flipping around. He and his skipper are really relaxed and cool guys and you can do your thing on the boat without being disturbed (quotation "everything is allowed on this boat" 🙂 ).
